Who We Are

Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW) is a Not-for-Profit animal welfare Organization based in Kenya. It has been registered under the provisions of the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act, 1990 section 3(10) of the Laws of Kenya under Charity Certificate no. OP.218/051/2006/0185/4157.

Its main objective is to work together with communities and other animal welfare and environmental stakeholders in promoting sustainable use of our biodiversity and the humane treatment of farm, wild and companion animals in Africa through compassion, care, appreciation and protection.

The focus of ANAW is on welfare and humane treatment of all animals for human welfare. Our work is anchored on the understanding and appreciation that animals are sentient beings; they have feelings, emotions and respond to psychological and physiological changes of the environment.

As a hands-on organization with strong grassroots focus across Kenya and the Africa region, we work directly in animal care and protection while building networks and partnerships with grassroots community organizations, other animal welfare organizations, networks and governments in Kenya and across Africa.

Our projects are largely targeted at establishing animal welfare as a community-driven responsibility that must not only be owned and driven at grassroots level but also be seen to be the most effective way of obtaining the greatest value from animals.

Since our establishment in 2006, we have committed ourselves in spearheading a number animal welfare of campaigns while building networks with governments, political leaders, media and other institutions to press for effective policy and legislation changes and care of animals at national and community level.

Our vision

Our vision of communities across Africa showing compassion, protection, and care for all animals, is based on our experience and understanding that a vast number of animals live within or under the care of communities. If we are to protect and care for all animals we must educate, motivate and encourage communities to be champions of animal welfare.

Our Mission

Our mission is; To work with communities and partners to promote humane treatment of animals through compassion, protection, advocacy and informed attitude change for greater good of mankind.
