There is really no good reason why animals should be killed for dissections and used in experiments for education and training purposes while modern and innovative methods without the use of animals exist, and have become the norm at many universities. In 2009 September, we hosted the ground breaking initiative to promote and implement such replacement alternatives to the use animals across Africa.
We are working with the International Network for Humane Education (InterNICHE) to introduce these alternatives to use of animals in dissections and experiments. The alternatives will reduce the harmful killing of animals in laboratories for education and research purposes. We continue to work towards assisting the relevant institutions to obtain these alternatives, through loan system managed by ANAW and InterNICHE.
