We are in the fore front campaigning against the cruel bare handed cultural ritual bull killing in Kwa Zulu Natal District in South Africa. Working with other animal welfare organizations in South Africa and abroad, we petitioned the South African Parliament, Sensitized the Media and moved to court seeking a court injunction. This campaign continues since the court still allowed it to go on despite the national and international outcry!!!
In 2008 December, we successfully campaigned against commercializing bull fighting in Kenya and we continue to make our objection known to this cruel barbaric blood sport, staged as a cultural event in western Kenya and now being invaded by Corporate and Politicians seeking publicity. Our anti-bull fighting campaigns are now focusing on plans by the government to build a bull ring in Kakamega town to attract tourists.
Hawking of animals especially dogs is steadily gaining momentum in Nairobi. We are concerned that these developments are akin to the Puppy Mill crisis rocking the United States at present. The animals are bred in horrible conditions and poorly handled by hawkers on the streets. Majority of the buyers regret being duped into spending a lump-sum on puppies that didn’t survive as a result of lack of veterinary care. With these concerned animal loving people, we have an ongoing campaign to STOP this “puppy mill” in the making before the situation gets out of hand.
