Within the leafy suburbs of Karen, at the outskirts of Nairobi City, stands a uniquely built house surrounded by a thick, natural forest. Kifaru House, named after one of Kenya’s Big Five – the Rhino, is a guest house made to give clients a homely and serene atmosphere away from the hustles and the bustles of the city.
Kifaru house was purposely named after the Rhino as all the proceeds made from the guest house are used to promote animal welfare and conservation work through the Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW). ANAW works together with communities and stakeholders in promoting humane treatment of farm, wild and companion animals through compassion, care appreciation and protection.
The House itself is a work of art. Each room has long glass windows and doors from where one experiences a breathtaking view of the valley beyond the sloping forest. The surrounding forest, blooming with flowers and varied indigenous trees, is home to many rare bird species and small animals such as the colobus monkey. Though it runs a short nature trail leading to a slow moving stream, which previous guests have called ‘The Creek’. It is a popular trail where guests have an early morning jog before taking breakfast or a late evening walk before turning in for the night.
Kifaru House focuses on its attention to personal service. It is essential to have our guests well taken care of ensuring them an excellent stay. The house is well furnished with adequate and efficient facilities. Each room displays beautiful works of African art among them snare arts made by local communities marketed by ANAW.
Kifaru House offers Airport transfer services (chargeable per trip) on request in advance. Arrangements for tours, travels and safaris can be made where our new custom made Toyota Land Cruiser can be used at a fee (charged per day, driver’s cost inclusive).
