Snare Art : Elephant
The African elephant is the largest living land mammal. Of all its specialized features, the muscular trunk is perhaps the most extraordinary. It serves as a nose, hand, extra foot, signaling device and tool for gathering food, siphoning water, dusting, and digging.
The tusks are another notable feature of both males and females. Tusks differ in size, shape and angle and researchers can use them to identify individuals.
Elephant tusks (ivory) are highly valued and as a result the elephant are poached for ivory making them endangered.
Elephants stand to a height of up to 11 feet and weigh 3.5 to 6.5 tonnes. It has a lifespan of 60 to 70 The female have a gestation period of 22 months years.
Though elephants are not targeted for bush meat; they often fall victims of snares that cause them injuries, amputated trunks and death.
